I wasn't to sure what to expect from this film, and had been looking forward to its' release for some time. I really enjoyed it. I had assumed (based on the previews) that there was an alternate universe/time twist to the story, so was pleasantly surprised by the direction it went in. A lot of the comments seem to take issue with the film, claiming it is 'anti-white' propaganda. Sure, whatever. For hundreds of years, African Americans - yes, slaves - were used for the brutal, inhumane, and altogether - f#ked up - entertainment of white people. This theme takes it further, mixes it together with some good ole' fashioned, contemporary Southern racism, and churns out a scarily believable storyline that feels uncomfortably possible, given America's dogged reluctance to confront this ugly past (and, inarguably, current state).
