In my opinion, “Oppenheimer” is a great movie. I do have one very important recommendation that I think will make for a much more enjoyable movie experience for you. As you probably know, this movie is based on a true story about the the life and times of J. Robert Oppenheimer (1904-1967), including the dropping of the atomic bombs on Japan in WW II (1945). History may prove this one event to be the most significant event in history of humankind. But however important that one event proved to be at the end of World War II (and for all of history), there is much more to the story. My recommendation in the strongest terms is that you spend some time prior to seeing the movie is do some basic research. Specifically, conduct some research on Professor Oppenheimer and his “Manhattan Project,” that led to the actual dropping of the first atomic bomb iin our history. But look further than that. Make sure to gain an understanding of the political developments that occurred after the dropping of the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945. Oddly enough, the most significant and perhaps interesting part of the story takes place post 1945. Oppenheimer warns us about the monster we have created, these massive nuclear weapons of destruction. It will be worth your while to study and reflect on J. Robert Oppenheimer’s warning. It’s a “catch 22” for the ages.
