I think it's a sham. The made a movie so they could cover it up even more. Our own government or a better term...Fat cats. Decided we needed a Boogeyman, a war, because war is good for business. We also needed control of the oil and poppy seed production so we can make even more money. The average American is incredibly stupid though.
