The animations were very beautiful particularly the plants and water imagery, however I found it to be more of an artistic piece and less a captivating narrative. But even with that said, it was really the songs that drove me mad, they were all so cringy and as I've experienced now a number of times with movies that use Lin-Manuel Miranda songs they continue to be overpacked with lyrics delivered in a staccato style that by the end of the film your head is spinning! also the tunes are so repetitive, not just in the film but across his films - I recently watched Mary Poppins returns and honestly the tunes were identical to the ones used in Mufasa, I appreciate this is obviously his style of music, but it is just not for me! I also didn't feel the songs added value to the plot or deepen your understanding of the characters feelings because they were so lyrically dense it felt like regurgitated dialog from the previous scene set to music. I think the story teller should decide if a scene should best be portrayed through music/song OR through dialog, and if this is done well done the audience will understand, and both is not necessary. For me one of the strongest emotional scenes was when Mufasa climbed up to Pride Rock - the majestic instrumental music from the original score playing, not just because this music is obviously sentimental but because it's quality music, it's original, it's unique, we need more of this in the new Disney movies to come please!
