This show is pretty awful. As a fan of the games and of sci-fis in general it seems like the writers have no idea how to create a new timeline using the amazing universe and characters Bungie created. I understand there were going to be changes but this honestly feels like a low budget Sci-Fi series that they realized wouldn’t work and instead changed up the scenery and props and slapped Halo on as the title to pull in viewers.
Master chief feels like a side character in his own story and many of the other characters in the show feel very one dimensional.
The show paid montage to the games in the first episode during the fight scene but has totally went away since in my opinion.
The characters change to appeal and move the story forward even if it doesn’t make sense. i.e. Spartans strength seems to increase and decrease based on the threat, Keyes doesn’t seem concerned with the Spartan program at all to do a full 180 in one episode, John’s trust in certain people (if you have seen the series then you know what I mean), etc.
One of my biggest problems with the show is the Quan-Ha side story. This has to be one of if not the worst side plot in a series. Why not do a side plot of Marines dealing with Covenant or something that shows how much of a threat the Covenant are because this show has not done that AT ALL. I just decided to skip halfway through episode 7 because it was only Kwan-Ha and the terrible side plot they put her in. If Paramount can do one thing to really make this show 100x better would be to glass Madrigal with Quan-Ha and her side story on it.
The only and yes ONLY redeeming quality about this series is the 10 minute action sequences we get every 4 episodes. This series deserves 1/2 a star and that’s a stretch on its own.
