First off, I don't write reviews for movies. This is a first. Seeing this win an Oscar has driven me to it. And I need to vent.
For a piece about hope and finding home I have never felt more hopeless and lost as I have while watching this. This was the most god awful piece of Hallmark style of trash I have ever allowed to burn my retinas.
While watching this in the theater alongside the other nominated shorts I could not help but let out an audible groan at each tacky line, which are delivered somewhat like getting punched repeatedly in the gut without relent. It is the single most asinine plot full of the most hollow characters spewing the most baseless contrived feel good smoke up your a*S bullsh*t.
This is an understatement. I cannot overstate how bad this was. It should be banned. I am convinced that there is some type of bribery happening in order for this to win an Oscar. This makes Thomas Kinkade seem like a revolutionary conceptual artist. 1 Star is 1 too many.
If this film was made as a silent film, it would have been much better. I am going to try watching it on mute.
