This is a fantastic indepth story of mid 19th century American West. The scenes seem to drag out until I understood Costner is giving the viewer a true feel of how those people lived. Travelers leaving a civilized homeland for the complete unknown. No law and order , or local customs. You are meeting new and unkown people in a different and new surroundings. Very much in the TRUE GRIT spirit. I for one can't wait for chapter 2. More Americans should see this movie to better understand our ancestors struggles.
