This was a great vision of Dune. The score enhances the film immensely and the casting was spot on. I was surprised by how much I liked Jason Mamoa as Duncan Idaho.
Accurate to the book overall, even with intentional character actions and inflections that only make sense if you’ve read the book—but not in a way that confuses an audience that hasn’t read the source material. The scene with Lady Jessica and Mapes gave me chills. There were even some hints about things from subsequent books which really made this a love letter to Frank Herbert fans.
There were only a couple scenes from the book that were left out of the movie, but nothing that will be missed.
The architecture and vehicle design was amazing, and the digital effects were done well enough not to “break the suspension of your disbelief.”
I loved the worm design and the sand dunes and desert images were dreamlike in their execution. Frem kits, sand compactors, lasguns, shields, ornithopters … all the Dune staples were there.
Will see again. And again. (Then probably one or two more times.)
