This was a gripping movie that touched on many deep themes- war, honor, sacrifice, heroism, the power that weapons hold, to name just a few. I highly recommend watching it , and the cast is stellar too!

It is one of those films that lingers too long on specific frames. The concept of child abuse also was not explained but alluded to, leaving me to question whether Joan’s therapist was guilty of creating false memories. I think Joan’s problem overall was her self/absorption and watching the film I thought “Get over yourself Joan!” Nevertheless she is an icon and I admire her in many ways.

I thought this show was top quality however I see one single annoying truth about the characters. The two lead women are actually movie star beautiful and their male counterparts are not conventionally attractive. This mirrors the stark reality that women need to be more attractive than men in real life, the expectation never goes away. You would never have a tv show featuring two very handsome men in love with two less attractive women. It is life and Art follows life, but it seems unfair nevertheless. Biology, History, it is a reality, Women are the fairer sex and in the endless pursuit of “love” women are required to look better..

I think the show went too far in acceptance of being obese. Obesity is a health risk and weight can be controlled. I am not into body shaming or even focusing too much on having a perfect body, but come on, the majority of covid deaths happened to overweight people!!. My favorite quote is “Change what you can change, accept what you can’t change and the wisdom to know the difference “ If being obese was good for our health I would not have a problem with it but it hurts our society as well when we are unhealthy as a people.
