I had heard that the movie got lukewarm reviews, but I was glad I did not let that keep me from watching it.
After the experience, it left me wondering if the negative reviews were mostly coming from the Marvel fanbase that has a hard time with female leads, because I have to say that the acting, action and plot of the movie were awesome - especially the acting from Iman Vellani. She kept the movie grounded and made sure nobody took themselves too seriously.
UPDATE: Just went through a bunch of 1-Star Reviews and my suspicions were confirmed - a bunch of guys complaining about feminism and a movie about "three princesses".
It's funny and ironic to hear guys complain about Marvel pushing an agenda instead of sticking to it's roots when they forget (or never realized) that comics have always tried to help readers consider new perspectives - perhaps the most obvious example being the X-Men's not-so-subtle examination of racism.
