I watched Age of Resistance back in 2019 when it first came out. After the first episode, I had to turn the tv off, call my girlfriend, and tell her that I just discovered my new favorite show. We agreed to watch the show together and I had to fight every temptation in my body to not watch the next episode until I saw her. Finally, I rewatched the first episode with my girlfriend and she was instantly hooked.
It was a show that we loved so much that we didn't just blow through it. We took our time watching only two episodes max in one day. It was a show that we really sat on and processed, absorbing all of its vibrant world and fascinating lore. I began to feel saddened as we approached the last episode because I knew it was going to be over. We watched the final moments and sat in silence, instantly anticipating the second season.
I understand why this was so precious to Jim Henson. In terms of fantasy, this is the single richest, most wonderful world since Middle Earth. The craftsmanship, the detail... Everything in this world feels so real, largely in part because it is! The sets are real! The puppets are real! You get this wonderful sense of wonder and excitement because it feels like you could actually live in Thra.
Needless to say, the news that this beautiful show got canceled breaks my heart profoundly. I will never understand why this show didn't get the love and viewership that it deserved. I understand that Netflix is a business and that a show has to meet certain numbers to be renewed but come on! It feels equivalent to canceling Harry Potter or Santa Claus.
TLDR: I love Age of Resistance and you should give it a genuine watch if you haven't. It is well worth your time.
