My late husband and I had the privilege of knowing the author, James Yates, and promising him I would work to keep his story and that of the Abraham Lincoln Brigade and the struggle for equality for ALL alive. As a civil rights historian, an Aesthetic Realism Associate, speaker and educator against racism, I encourage everyone to read From Mississippi to Madrid and work to have it taught in schools, too.

The Cultural Caravan is a must-see production series on the lives, culture, history, and contributions of people of color everywhere in the world. I'm grateful to have watched Louise Dente's interviews for many years, and thank her for her dedication to preserving so much history that would otherwise have been unknown or lost.
