These are books that make you think, and chew on fundamental philosophical realities. Death's End in particular was a hard read. The author mercilessly follows the end game of choices and sociological concepts all the way to their completion, no matter how dark they seem to get; however, it's more complex than that. He doesn't just pursue the naked idea his characters and the plot revolves around, but like a Wallfacer himself, he hides his real philosophical position until the end. It's brilliantly done, and has restored my faith in the genre as something that does not have to descend into nihilism.
