My personal review: Not an enjoyable game so far even when (IF) it works. - With the first day launch plagued with DDOS attacks, poor planning, errors and glitches and the following days being no exception; it seems like the overwatch team just can't get a handle on this game. As soon as they fix something, another issue crops up making the current game not only almost impossible to play normally, but impossible to play at all. Even though most launches have some problems the overwatch team has also done very poorly in communicating with their community. Not only with keeping their playerbase up to date what is going on behind the scenes and how they're handling it, but with also springing surprise maintenance on them less than an hour before they plan to take the game down. Connecting is only one of MANY issues with this game still, on day four.
Now assuming you manage to make it into the game without issue, connect to matches without huge wait times, and not get kicked from your matches midway through you are welcomed an abysmal experience. Many of the features I and many other players enjoyed have been scrapped for no apparent reason. They have removed the concept of levels and portraits, making the time you spend in the game feel much less rewarding. The only thing your matches and experience go to is naturally their money grab "battle pass" which is a feature that plagues so many other free to play games. If you can look past that of course it means your playtime has doesn't even have a minimal cosmetic reward, meaning free to play players get to feel left out of a simple easy to implement feature the original game had. "On fire" is no longer a feature, wiping out a rewarding feeling that keeps your game momentum an all time high, now you get a simple voice line and no other indication of how well you're doing. Very disappointing. They've implemented a classic scoreboard, one of the features I liked about the game previously was the LACK of this during the game. It breeds toxicity and the player "I'm doing better than you and now I can see it all the time so I'm gonna make quips constantly" mentality found in so many games.
Overall not only has my user experience been simply awful but the game itself doesn't play well, and while there are still many unique features about the heros themselves, all other unique aspects of the game have been sidelined for a classed FPS feel. The new direction has done little to appease old fans, or new.
