Black Lightning is like no other Super Hero show. It tackles old issues with super powers, but also reminds you that the ultimate power lies in the unity of the masses. The action, special effects, set designs, costumes, story lines and the acting is top notch. The cast is very diverse and at times, female heavy. Too many guests stars to name. It’s the DC Comics Universe, which seems to be pushing the limits of what some may call moral codes. There are those who may find the social, racial, gender, economic, and justice at any cost themes to be too heavy handed l. But that’s what separates this show from all the others. It paints a painful but realistic view of the world at large. The city they live in is named, Freeland. Let that sink in for a moment! The producer is African American, Salim Akil and he has brought in The Who’s Who of directing. Just to name a few; veteran directors, Michael Schultz of Car Wash fame and Oz Scott of OZ, to Rob Hardy, Neema Barnett and music video pioneer Benny Boom. It’s not a perfect show, but it perfectly illustrates how power hungry people are everyone’s worst enemy. Wish it would get picked up by another channel, so that these stories, which are hardly ever seen on other shows, can be told. There is talk of a spin-off show, featuring one of the characters, Painkiller, played by Jordan Calloway. His character has drug induced split identities. One good l, the other very bad. He is really good at playing both identities and is definitely eye Candy for the ladies. Going to miss this show a lot! As the theme music for the show exclaims; I saw a super hero and he was Black! Black Lightning!
