If you haven't read the book, by Taylor Jenkins Reed- do that. This movie was rather cheaply produced and because of that a lot of small details (that really made the book work) were left out. For example, when Jesse returns, one of the dirst things Emma notices about him is that he is missing one of his pinky fingers. That was left out, and they even moved locations from Jesse arriving at the airport to Jesse arriving at his house. Another thing was that Emma cuts her hair to a short platinum blonde pixie cut/bob. Nope, doesn't happen. Most of the acting was really strained, even though they had some great actors who do wonderful work in other projects in there. But I will say, for a cheap production of a wonderful book, they did alright. I would suggest reading the book first, or even reading some of the other reviews on here to get some more details I may have left out.

Watched this movie in one of my history classes. At first, I wasn't so sure about it because I primarily watch and enjoy modern movies and TV shows. But this movie blew me away. The acting is great but in a different way acting today is. Rock Hudson and Elizabeth Taylor are absolutely fantastic and James Dean is iconic as Jett Rink. 'Giant' portrays active racism and the clear disconnect between the wealthy and the poor. If you're part of the younger generation and think older movies are lame, I ask that you give this one a try. The history behind this movie alone is fascinating, and even if you don't enjoy all of the movie at least you tried something new.
