I appreciate the hard work the entire production crew put into making this film.
It represent a huge cross section of Americans who are single parenting teens. Cynthia Wright played by Priscilla Shirer did a superb job of portraying some of those realities.
Here is the reality for many who are single parenting- like it or not, it does take a village.
You need to harness support. Support you can count on and call on in the middle of the night.
Your primary support must be Christ. Why?
Our children are influenced by what we don’t control. The film did a wonderful job of harnessing that support for Isaiah Wright, who represented millions.
I encourage churches to go in group, Families to take their teen and watch the film together, but don’t just watch the film, have the conversations immediately after- go get some ice cream, or talk about what it over a meal together. “ So, tell me what part of the Isaiah’s life resonated with you?” “Explain why?” End the conversation with something along this line, “Tell me how can I pray for you?” Keep the conversation light and talk in soft tones but let them know you love them, let them hear your heart … be honest!
This film is an open door for many parents to talk with their teens about things … And turn the phone off while you are at it and please give your teen your full attention-quality time.
I say all this from a very qualified and experiential perspective.
Parents you have the best resources: Christ, your church family, your prayer partners, and other community resources, but you must use them to fight back the enemy.
You got this!
