Rise of the TMNT is Teen Titans Go with turtles. It lacks substance. Sure, if you’re looking for a nonsensical cartoon with a plot that cleans up during the credits, then this is for you. But, cartoons like this can have literally any characters leading the story. They could be completely new and have gotten rid of the reboot aspect; I think I would’ve liked it better if they did! Overall, they changed the characters too much, the premise too much, and the thematic ideas too much. Ninja Turtles was always supposed to be a sort of dark-yet-comedic rip on the superhero genre. It bled 80s-90s cartoon subculture. This... just duplicates the same random antics that every other cartoon in the late 2010s falls prey: it just doesn’t feel full of value. My review: Skip it. Wait for a more clearly conceptualized reboot. 1/5.
