Having been a librarian for a number of years, I read Peter Brown's absolutely amazing, loving, kind, book about Roz so I could whole-heartedly recommend it to the students who frequented the library. I have read and re-read it and have always felt the same--it is a book to be cherished for the strong values of community and caring it presents. The book totally eradicates prejudice in favor of acceptance and the notion of helping one another regardless of what comes along. I was anxious to see the film, and I was totally dismayed and disappointed at how Dreamworks twisted and misrepresented what the author wrote. I cannot understand why Peter Brown would have signed off on the rights to the film makers, considering how they skewed the plot and some very key points in the story. If you haven't read the book, it might be OK. Otherwise--get read to be disappointed.
