Unfortunately the game just isn’t finished. As an enthusiastic competitive pokémon player, I was obviously really looking forward to the new game. The graphics aren’t just too basic (and they are), but they’re also unpolished, jagged, and – worst of all – distracting. I can’t enjoy meeting Sprigatito when the shadow he casts is clipping in and out of the ground. I can’t enjoy the beautifully-designed buildings when all of the pixelated walls look like moving staircases. I can’t focus on my rival and what she’s saying when the framerate repeatedly drops. I’ve enjoyed pokémon all my life and I’m willing to forgive a lot—but there is simply no excuse. Why am I playing what seriously passes for a closed alpha test? The game isn’t finished and I almost want a refund. I guess I’ll have to discover all the new pokémon by playing on showdown.
