In a year of wonderful and interesting films, Tar is no exception. Todd Fields has constructed a narrative that is unyielding in both insularity and activity. I would love to be privy to Cate Blanchett’s process as she found this character. I swear, I kept expecting this to turn into a high concept horror film and while it isn’t a horror film It might be a cautionary tale about the the dangers of feeding our own egos.

The Matrix Resurrections is a clever and adroit film. It utilizes our own yearning for reboots and sequels against us while also supporting our desire for franchise films. It reimagines what a reboot can do and The Matrix is probably the only film that was designed to be redrawn in this unique way. Only, Twin Peaks comes to mind when trying to think of a project that creates its own universe that allows for such creativity, decades after the original project ends.
