Randall Vance

Stumbling upon this film, I first wondered if it had been produced in Czechia, the tech having a distinct "soviet-era" look. I suppose the $40M budget required some sacrifices. I won't comment on the plot, but I loved it with the spider finally allowed Jakub embrace it.

This fast paced, offbeat, quirky, humorous, and action-packed series drew me in. Nikita Panfilov plays a reformed ex-cop, booted from the department for being a lush, but now, on the wagon, constantly called upon to provide brilliant "freelance" work. In reality, he supplies plenty of brawn, but his amazing dog ("dog") is the true "brains" of the outfit. Just to keep things interesting, he still carries a flame for the ex-fiancee that dumped him and moved in with his best friend - all working together on the force. Action, but not much gore. Good fun, if you don't mind subtitles.
