Enjoyed watching the rerun of "The big bang theory", S1E1, , even though the show is more than 10 year old, some things looked odd. 1. Penny, even while working for minimum wage as a waitress, could afford the apartment room all by herself. The rent may be affordable in LA, California. Or sheldon may be renting a place below his means. That is to say he is renting some old, dilapidated building even though he can afford to rent in a much nicer apartment, just as a quirk. 2. Indian and MIT trained engineer had no car initially, so how do they commute?
