A hammy, pink masterpiece, Barbie is a fantastic film. The dialogue, costuming, set design and pace is well crafted. There are moments where the narrative lacks connection from scene to scene, but the Barbie movie is unapologetically self aware of the limitations a Barbie doll has in representing reality.
So rare it is to find positive representation of mothers and daughters that don't rely on Freudian competition. The Barbie movie actively opens a discourse on the harm patriarchy has on women, but also on men. As a reversed Adam and Eve, Ken is just as significant in his presence which echo the films message poignantly- Patriarchy hurts all and equality is needed. I recommended this film with much enthusiasm :)
