Nicely written as you would expect, but disappointing.
Dr Painter goes into some detail about her admirable academic accomplishments at the beginning of the book, which began to get a bit tedious after while. Second, as a professional artist for many years, I found her conclusions about what was art (painting and sculpture) and what was necessary to make art (a BFA and MFA) very limiting. She was anxious to make work that pleased her teachers, not seeming to understand that what art teachers like and dislike is often determined by the aesthetics of their own practice.
