An astonishingly original story which takes an awfully long time to play out. Fewer kettles of boiling water and descriptions of everything everyone was wearing every minute of every day might have made the book a bit lighter to pick up!!

Absolutely addictive: The theme tune, the charismatic "Master", the comical cast of regulars, the simple, tasty recipes, the gentle, universal storylines. My only reservation was Marilyn's striptease sequences, which I could have done without. Others might disagree!
