It was funny while covering real circumstances in modern-day society. Of course, the so-called critics hate it because they only approach it from an academic point of view. The cast is fantastic. Eddie Murphy was hilarious throughout as the stern, Muslim everyone else-be-damned father. The critics denounce "cringe-worthy" moments in the film, but it's the cringe-worthy moments that are funny because they're supposed to be cringe-worthy. Of course, most of the critics probably can't relate to the actual inter-racial, inter-faith relationship at the core of it because they're not in one. They only analyze based on what they think it should be.
