Stunningly beautiful visuals, tender moments when the octopus allowed herself to be held that will bring a lump to the throat. ...a perfect film in every respect.
But I have to say, I felt a tinge of anger at the diver for not intervening more. In her last days, when death was around the bend after she laid her eggs, he could have scooped her up into an aquarium and let her die peacefully, safe and unafraid of predators.
Instead, he watches while a shark grabs and eats her because it would be "interfering with nature." Would he say the same thing if his son was taken by a lion? This refusal to intervene left a bad taste in my mouth, even though I don't doubt for a moment the diver's dedication to her.
