This show was a waste of money - the budget was enormous, but there is absolutely no comparing it to the Peter Jackson films(or the books). It is a badly written, overly politicized parody of Tolkien’s world. It is true that they had to somewhat write it from scratch, as they are covering events after the war of wrath(the last highly detailed portion of the Silmarillion) and before the Hobbit, so at least they’re not directly diverting from source material. However, there is a lot in the show that doesn’t really seem to fit in the world that Tolkien created. As a tv show, it’s not so bad, but as a Lord of the Rings tv show it’s absolutely atrocious. If you’ve never read the books, you might enjoy it, but I found it quite disagreeable (unless I could separate it in my mind from LOTR). There is a lot in this show that makes absolutely no sense, and a lot of sloppy disregard for detail - it seems like an enormous waste of the tremendous amount of money they spent on it.
