I have been a long time customer/patron and supporter of The Cake Bake Shops. I live in Texas but my grand daughters live in Indianapolis. I visit at least once per month and we always visit your restaurant. I have had their birthday celebrations, at least 50 lunches and have purchased many other items from cake bake shops over the years.
I can honestly say that I have been a huge fan….until today.
I am here visiting for my daughter’s 40th birthday. My son in law forgot to order a cake and my granddaughter was in tears that mommy would not have her favorite cake at her party! I thought no problem!!!! I will run up to cake bake and purchase one. (I have purchased whole cakes in the past) My granddaughter and I arrive at the counter, ordered macarons, cookies and an entire Raspberry champagne cake. I was then told that I could not purchase a whole cake, that I could purchase 5 slices of cake (a half of a cake) …if I wanted more than that I would have to select a different flavor and purchase an additional 5 slices. In fact I could purchase 5 slices of each of the dozen flavors they offer. (That didn’t really help as then we could not present the cake with candles and sing) I offered to purchase 5 slices and then purchase 5 more and pay the per slice price (which would be an additional $20 per cake). I noted that then, they would then not have to cut, package and take the time to handle the cake. I was told that no, that I would have to change the flavor and they would still have to cut each slice and package for carry out.
I’m wondering if this sounds as ludicrous to anyone else? I have owned a high end boutique for 20+ years and although I understand that policies are in place for a reason. Sometimes when you have a situation for a long time patron, perhaps on occasion there could be an accommodation! My grand daughter was sobbing as the manager of the Carmel location said no and walked away!
I truly cannot for the life of me understand why this would be such an issue. I offered to take a different flavor that possible they had more of. Still NO!
To say that I was thoroughly disappointed in how inflexible this establishment was is an understatement!
We did go to another bakery, bought a beautiful cake among other items and spent $250 there instead of at The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers
