This book had caught me so well that I finished it in less than a week. Great love story and the description of the battles were vivid and gory. This book made me fall in love with a war-time books and how wars are so cruel. I really wish I didn’t rush it. However, after I understood the meaning of the ending, my heart ached with joy and sadness, I immediately had to go back to the book to truly feel Gaunt’s and Ellwood’s emotions; I was surprise that I missed some of their expressions. Most of the characters were interesting and I loved Gaunt so much that i had to pause the reading and had to continue the next day after finishing part 1. The change of moods parts after parts were really impressive that it feels like a different book and I felt different emotions at each parts like funny, sad, happy, etc. Overall, Alice Winn’s writing were really amusing and the use of poems were very smart. It’s been week since I finished it and I still can’t get over the ending how they changed so much after the war. Ellwood have now lost his left face and Gaunt’s chest shaped weirdly, but yet they still love each other truly like the way they did during school year, which I find so devastating. Description of Ellwood’s face reminded me of “Young and Beautiful” by Lana del Rey. Ellwood and Gaunt still lives in my head. I could say that this book has destroyed me in a very fine way.
