I’ve really enjoyed the show. I’ve picked up lots of great ways to cook meals and love trying to make them after each episode. Selena cracks me up as she works through the recipe process b/c she’s so genuinely endearing to watch. She makes mistakes just like everyone would at home just like I would and it cracks me up. Every time I make a goofy mistake I say “I pulled a Selena.” It’s become my favorite cooking show to watch b/c Selena is not a professional chef. A he’s learning and making mistakes with you vs watching a pro chef make it look effortless.
A couple things I could do without and is why I have this a 4 star instead of 5…
1) Raquel needs to go. She’s annoying. Her inability to not be on her phone is annoying. It’s clearly an addiction for her that she needs to address. I didn’t realize being on TV is not intriguing enough for even her. Selena’s other friends show up, are attentive, and help without a question. Granted Raquel does as well, but the fact that a money jar was created for her every time she gets on her phone means it’s even more ridiculous in real life with her. I think this is the first tv show I’ve seen someone showcase their phone addiction on a show. She mainly stands around giggling the whole show, flirts embarrassingly with male chefs, seems like she is there for the spotlight and fame. Every time she is on an episode my partner and I always let out an “ugh! It’s Raquel again.”
2) in general I’m not a fan of having her friends on the show. They’re over the top and most times come off as ditsy giggling girls. I’d like to see Selena cook by herself. Needing her friends all the time makes it seem like she can’t handle anything on her own. Her grandparents are so adorable though. Have them be the helpers instead!
