Tom Holland deserves to qualify for (and win) a 2024 Primetime Emmy for his astonishingly convincing portrayal of a person with dissociative identity disorder. There is so much fine acting by all cast members in this series, and enormous efforts were made to recreate the late 1970s time period in an authentic way. This was intelligent, riveting viewing, showing the power of the mind to try to protect the individual after years of extreme abuse. This biopic is based on a real (and landmark) case. For anyone who appreciates high quality psychological and psychiatric dramas, it is unmissable. Tom Holland's acting is in the same extraordinary league as Jack Nicholson in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.
I suggest ignoring the critics' below-average reviews. One wonders if they were even concentrating on the story, or understanding the necessary subtleties of Holland's portrayal as Danny, compared with his other alters. At least one professional reviewer only watched half the episodes before expressing an opinion!
Wholeheartedly recommended.
