I was excited to watch this based on the description, mainly for the Appalachian voodoo magic as the center piece of this film.
Let me tell you, I live in the Appalachian mountains. This is NOT filmed anywhere near the Appalachian mountains. Peep the few mountain scenes you find- everything is jagged, dry, and void of greenery. The complete opposite of the appalachia land scape. The way he pronounced Appalachia was the biggest red flag within the first 20 minutes of the film. “Ap-puh-latch-uh” is the proper pronunciation. Not “app-a-lay-shuh” 🙄 The accents are WAYYY off, the characters do not develop well, and I couldn’t even bring myself to finish it. I read that the people behind the production and directing of this film are not American, and it shows. Not well thought out. It felt like they just wanted to make a black horror film and tried to top Jordan Peele, and failed miserably.
