Lloyd is a fantastic, simple, straight to the heart, coming of age story where a kid who is deemed ugly and useless finds his own self worth through childhood antics and shifting his own gaze toward friendship. This film inspires all who watch it to look for those who truly deserve one's attention, rather than those who are absorbing it naturally and to find one's happiness along side others rather than alone. This funny, childish, 90'sesque 87 minute film captures all the heart and soul of the childhood most of us grew up with but is also filled with a nuanced perspective of a suburban world. The teachers to the child actors, to the landscape itself will feel familiar and comfortable all while challenging our perspectives while delivering on some family fun and a warmhearted ending. Be ready to laugh, to love, and to cry with this quick, but worth it comedy; Lloyd.
