Intelligent, thoughtful program. DCI Ellis is not your usual know-it-all copper, as are so many of American cop shows. If you want sloppy story lines that jump to unfounded conclusions, this program is not for you. DCI Ellis is a character of depth, and the plots are mysterious with very human strengths and failings. This show is worthy of continued seasons.

This show is mostly irritating. We cannot help but wonder how they have survived! Always have last minute rush to complete projects before some disaster strikes; always experience some near-disastrous accident that supposedly comes breathtakingly close to loss of life or limb; three generations have homesteaded here, but have yet to own indoor plumbing . . .really??? And you raise beef cattle, so why is hunting so crucial to "putting meat in the freezer"? Males in the family seem to have Daddy issues, since their sole purposes in life are to carry on their father's legacy. Too bad the women do not have any ancestors worth mentioning. Anyone who has grown up on a farm has experienced 95% of the "hardships" these people have, and do not have their own tv show to complain about it.

Enjoy the show, and the everyday practical recipes. However, am not a fan of (1) the long hair on the female chefs, and(2) the long sleeves, jackets and hoodies, worn by the men. We've allowed our kitchen environment to become unsanitary and sloppy, and it's not a good look.

Show seems to honestly portray what it is like to live in this remote wilderness, without the fanfare and self-aggrandizing that is so much of Life Below Zero. Characters are shown going about their daily lives, working hard like any family anywhere, quietly withstanding deep-freeze winters, and surviving despite not enjoying the modern conveniences most of us use daily. Theirs is a world of natural, simplistic beauty; their lifestyle is one to envy.
