Although not my favourite movie of the year I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this! I’m an avid fan of Spanish horror so that certainly helped my watch of this movie! The gore was great and its overall depressing tone worked well. I would compare the gore to Midsummar, so shocking at times but not too crazy! The use of kids in horror will always cause a divide but for me it worked well for this movie. The lead character made every bad mistake you could think of but honestly I didn’t care! My critic would be there were quite a few side plots that were briefly mentioned that could have been scrapped completely or more refined as it was a little distracting at times and didn’t really fit. Add on here that if you’re triggered by children being quite brutally k*lled off I recommend using the website ‘does the dog die’ to read up on triggers as there is one particularly scene that could be shocking for some In conclusion if you’re a fan of A24 movies (to me this has a similar vibe) or Spanish Horror in general that isn’t all about action this is well worth a watch!
