Very compelling series with excellent acting and writing! John Krasinski is the 5th onscreen Jack Ryan and although I’ve enjoyed them all, he might be my favorite. All of the characters are complex, fully fleshed out, and flawed. Jack Ryan is the hero but even he has regrets. As others have noted, the show has a multidimensional approach so you get everyone’s point of view - not just Ryan’s. On a side note, Timothy Hutton has a supporting role! It’s nice to see such a talented actor back onscreen.
Definitely worth watching!
A bit of a spoiler alert here! (Though not directly about the plot itself). There have been changes to the three familiar character’s (Ryan, Greer and Cathy) backstories. Ryan attended Boston College (not the Naval Academy) and his helicopter accident happened while he was in the Marines in Afghanistan. Greer is divorced Muslim with no reference to any sort of military background (“Admiral Greer” is gone) and thus his job title is dramatically different. And Cathy is an infectious disease specialist (still the daughter of Joe Mueller who is himself unchanged). If you are a fan of the tech military aspect of the Jack Ryan u-verse, I think you will be disappointed. While there is plenty of military reference on the show (including drones), it focuses more on the personal aspect of it - i.e. PTSD et al. These character changes are not unfounded though as they are central to the plot of this series and are worked in with well written - and well acted - precision.
