Popcorn movie, don’t take it too seriously

Cringe conversations throughout the entire movie with amateur acting. Somehow the movie intentionally downplays the Cultural Revolution, and portraits the Culture Revolution as a riot/protest led by confused young adults, which was not true. The motivation for Dr. Wang to leave China for the US was not clearly elaborated. Even though it was implying the Dr. Wang was fed up with the chaos in China, the movie was very restrained on revealing the true history of Cultural Revolution and how intellectuals were prompted to flee from China under such circumstances. Overall, there is a significant lack of depth in the scripts and acting.
