*****WARNING SPOILERS ALERT******* To begin with, the overall movie lacked something. I’m trying to put my finger on it, but I just can’t. Honestly, I feel like Aladdin, Cinderella and the Jungle book just fit the bill so much more than this movie. I liked how they developed the Jamaican theme throughout and added other details, but was heartbroken to see other things taken out of the original. This was my first movie I ever saw as a little girl and so it’s always been one of my favorites. I just felt the gowns that Ariel wore never materialized. They had the budget so I don’t understand what the designer was thinking when she thought it would be a good idea to put her in a ripped water soaked dress instead of something that would speak more volume of who is Ariel now that she can speak (hence the gorgeous and iconic sparkle dress in the original). And Eric was in the same costume in the entire movie? Really??? The producers picked the wrong costume designer. Yes the Jamaican period dresses (pink ruffle) were a nice idea for changing out AFTER the blue dress. No pink gown or wedding gown…just VERY disappointed in the costume designer. The Queen looked more like a bride. I actually thought the CGI was good. Not everything can match up to the original animation. As an artist, I know how difficult that is to do. Melissa McCarthy was the crown jewel. Definitely was an amazing villain and fit the character mold of Ursula 100%. Hallie Bailey had an amazing voice but had very unnatural looking red hair on land. Sad they cut King Tritons daughters song. King Triton seemed very passive even though I felt the actor was a fitting MerKing. What really put the bad taste in my mouth was the ending…no wedding, just a farewell. The Asian Merboy threw me off (I started laughing). The speeding wooden boat was comical not romantic. Just was not a good ending. Would have been better if they were married on the ocean and shared a kiss in front of all the merpeople and kingdom. The ending was disappointing. Maybe that’s what’s lacking? The happily ever after wedding?

This is the worst of all Peter Pan movies by far. I was so bored I stopped halfway through and went to bed. The beloved classic would stand 9/10 and Hook was a 10/10 and everything else is just ok and then this is just poor. Neverland was dull. I think the artistic imagery overall won first place in muted landscape in something that should be considered vibrant and lively. There was nothing magical about it except maybe the oversized crocodile. Tink was just ok…while I personally didn’t mind them introducing a black actress playing her I could not stand the constant woke agenda being shoved down my throat. Tink is known to be mischievous and they took Wendy and her to gain up on Peter Pan which I found annoying. The ultra left feminist attitude ruined the movie. There were so many beautiful moments in the original that was missing (I skimmed through before turning it off). The mermaids…tiger lilys tribe…and maybe even adding fairies. The pirates could have been way cooler just felt it was lacking something. Adding the constant arguing with Peter and Wendy was super annoying. They wasted too much time on this. Wendy was a good actress choice…not so much for Peter Pan. Seriously, the best part of the whole movie was the crocodile 🐊 whoever made him gets some bonus points. Everything else was just terrible and an insult to the classic.
