For anyone who has studied the classics, this show is disappointing. If you haven’t studied the classics, it’s still disappointing.
The characters feel hollow and two dimensional. The storyline feels glossed over leaving out important events to the story, but focuses on others to make a social statement.
I think the writers missed the opportunity to clarify the story. For example, the Cassandra could have been developed better and handled differently to explain the situation and foreshadowing. As written, she just seems mentally ill and disconnected leaving the viewer confused to what the point is. Quite honestly, knowing the story and seeing this version, it may have been better to cut her character to focus on the development of others.
I made it to episode 4 hoping it would get better… I lost interest
I have to say I also feel very uncomfortable with the casting, it feels like there’s an underlying agenda there. I think Greek and Turkish culture are being hijacked and culturally appropriated here, for the sake of a political statement. Honestly, I don’t see any stand out performances to justify the choices made.
