Having seen many Wwii documentaries in my time I thought I could miss this one. But staying with friends who were keen to see it. Very glad I did. There is, quite amazing footage I have never seen. One marvels, at how it was filmed and staggered that the camera, man survived. I assume. There was also information that was new to me especially the scale of the, US troop and materials, armada that arrived in Morocco for the North Africa campaign. Never seen such acres of equipment. The other revelation although I did have a vague recollection of it was the treacherous actions by the French navy commanders in Algeria when they refused to cooperate with the British request to hand over the ships to avoid them falling into German hands. They then two years later took revenge by firing on and Killing hundreds of US and British troops in the big US convoy which then had to use Morocco. Shameful.
On the critical side of the North Africa campaign not enough time was spent on Al Alemein and Commonwealth troops contribution. The scale of the Pow numbers taken by both sides was huge. I always wonder how they were fed and accommodated. The series is a must watch
