Went to PVR Juhu with a good friend, to watch the film - Sam Bahadur. I must confess I am not at all a movie buff, but this was one movie I felt I had to see, both as an Indian and as a Parsee. Had heard and read so much about this towering personality and all his quotes have always resonated with me. I was not at all disappointed. Meghna Gulzar has done a wonderful job trying to fit in so many facets of this great man in the space of 130 minutes, from his valour and his gentlemanly behaviour to his subordinates, to his sense of humour
But the star of the show is definitely Vicky Kaushal, with his brilliant portrayal of Sam, - from the endearing twinkle in his eye to his slightly stooped walk. He seems to have done his homework very well and really got into the skin of the character. He has done full justice to the role and I shall be very surprised if he doesn't walk away with quite a few awards.
I think the younger generation definitely needs to watch this film to know the stuff that heroes, officers and gentlemen of the Armed Forces are made of and to be proud of India's first Field Marshal - Sam (Bahadur) Maneckshaw, a beloved War General and one of the chief architects of India's Victory in the 1971 war against Pakistan. Do go and watch it. It is definitely worth a dekho, Sweetie, as Sam would say. And I can see every Parsee's chest puffing up with pride as they say, "After all, this is Aapro Sam."
