Let me start by saying, I LOVE Agatha Christie’s Poirot detective books. They were wonderful mysteries with exciting twists and plots, and all-around wholesome content.
I was excited when someone finally rolled out a movie for the series– Murder on the Orient Express. I watched it when it came out and was impressed and delighted. They did a wonderful job recreating the story, although there were some parts that could have been better…though we all understand that’s always the case. Book is usually better than the movie. Because the first movie was so great, I couldn’t wait to watch Death on the Nile.
However, when I watched it, words cannot fully describe the disappointment I experienced around every corner of the movie. Agatha Christie would roll over in her grave if she knew someone took her Poirot Detective and made his movie into a political, racial, and social pedestal. I mean, the whole way through the movie racial queues were being thrown in to highlight the “African voice.” There was also the typical portion where they had to tear down the successful white male as a pathetic being…and then of course there had to be a homosexual couple in it. There were also strong sexual implications that were included throughout the movie that were unnecessary and detracted from the plot of the story. Needless to say, I felt like I wasted my money and time to see something that completely betrays the true Agatha Christie Poirot Detective.
What does it take to just have a good movie where the story is just told because it’s a good story…not littered with so many political, racial, and social agendas? We read stories and watch movies to get away from all of that, not to be preached to about it.
