FIRST AND FOR MOST I never played this game on the WII. In short, I don’t like this game. I wanted to love it and heard high praise about it with many saying “It’s like Unleashed but only with the daytime missions” But truthfully, it’s just not. Unleashed had a lot more polish and ambition with its levels and while the levels in Colors are pretty to look at, there also very forgettable. The story is nonexistence, the music is okay but other than Planet Wisps, it’s just as forgettable as the levels. The Wisps at first seemed like a fun twist to the game but, quickly become more of a hindrance and slow Sonic down more than actually help him. The real killer for me however, are the controls. Speaking from the (PS4) version, the controls are lagged. Either you jump too soon or jump too late. If you do manage to jump just right then you have to deal with Sonic’s momentum which is maintain. Thus, on small platforms too often he will land on them and immediately fall right back off. Then there’s annoying wall jump that triggers every time you try to jump over a wall or the equally annoying walk off platform when clearly, I meant to jump because Sonic was “too close” to the edge. I really wanted to love this game and given its high praise I was expecting a similar experience. Maybe my dislike comes from me being too old to enjoy this style of gameplay or maybe it really is better suited for a WII or a Switch. Regardless, I’m now convinced that Sonic Unleashed really was Sega’s last attempt to put any real effort into a Sonic Game.
