What a disappointment in the way Tamil movies continue to represent women.
The ladies here in the movie are objectified, trivialised, dehumanised.
The male dominates, subjugates, gaslights, and wins both women at the end.
Tragic and insensitive.
Have the makers of the movie not heard of Cassandra phenomenon? Emotional deprivation? And the painful effects upon a human?
When will Tamil films portray women as humans with real needs and rights and just as sexy bodies with a ton of guilt and responsibilties?
Spoiler ahead
Why is the man not aware, not made aware of his disorder of talkativeness? Why is that trivialised and presented humorously while turning a blind eye to the emotional deprivation of Mouna?
What brings about the random transformation in him ? Is it not the job that mouna pays him 75k for? Is it not the idea of the job given by the lady counsellor? Is it not the listening, empathetic ear of the counsellor? How come none of these roles played by women are acknowledged? And he is portrayed as a self-unmade man?
And his disorder is the elephant in the room. noone talks about it his seemingly narcissistic tendencies wreaking havoc on mouna
Flip the script.
What if the lady, mouna, had deprived the hero all thru, of emotional inputs? What if she only wanted to feed and be intimate at the drop of a hat without consent? And what if he had gone on to hire a guy to fall for her?
Already absurd, right?
Let me take it to the climax. Would u visualise dulquer salman then collapsing to his knees in the cafe, last scene, and begging to be taken back?
No. The movie probably won't even be watched till the end.
Wake up Tamil filmmakers. Read up on feminism, women's rights, women's portrayal in media. You don't have the excuse or right to be ignorant when the world surges forward.
Let's be progressive. Be the change, guys.
