This show could have been so great.
It has potential moments, but it never comes through.
I would have preferred this show if it focused on Phim's character and developed her love story with the Nordic, Dof. The actress playing Phim was a breath of fresh air. Even Skäsgard just can't make the script come alive.
So many questions left unanswered.
Why does Nimue (who is played by the dullest actress I've ever seen) get hated by her village people for being a witch when the village is fey? And if the village isn't fey why do they all get killed? Why is Nimue's mum a witch when she's fey, not Druid? Why is Nimue so angry?
Why are they all being killed?
Why does Nimue survive just sitting there watching her village's massacre when villagers are being burned alive on wooden crosses?
Why do the people on said crosses fry to bits but the crosses remain standing?
Who is the weeping man? That sounds magical, yet he wanders with the Christian crusaders killing magical creatures? Who is he? Why is he so angry? How come he can swipe away arrows pinging towards his head but can't see a fey man about to side tackle him? How come he can track a person in a great big forest from a drop or two of blood, right down to their gender and cultural origin, but can't find the recent tracks of 100 fey refugees coming out of a single-entrance cave?
How come Nimue is a fey with powers when she's actually the daughter of a Druid? What about the fey people's powers? In one scene we see a fawn fey bound incredibly high but we see no other powers from any of the other fey people. For magical beings, who have lived from the fruits of the forest, they're not very good at finding food all of a sudden. Who are the different fey families? What's their background? Why should we root for them? Can they not perform even the slightest fey magic to protect themselves from a bunch of upset mortals?
Why does Arthur burst into the show with public song? His character is shy and weak so his weird public sing session is, quite frankly, bizarre. How come he can kill 20 paladins but falls on his arse in seconds with this strange Weeping Man in front of him? Why can't he close his mouth?
Seriously my questions go on and on!
Nothing makes sense.... no characters are developed.... no plots adhere.....
My biggest question of all is, why is the show called 'cursed'? What the? Perhaps 'the fate of the fey' 'the rise of Excalibur' 'Merlin's drunk again' could have better suited the several plots going on here that never receive any point. 'Cursed' makes no sense; perhaps describes the feel of the show to a very minuscule, sort of-maybe-slightly inferred idea (I think) of the sword's power over its weilder... maybe.
I'm only going to endure the last episode in hopes that we'll finally see Nimue actually act, Merlin actually cast a spell, a storyline actually have a point, Phim actually get a kiss, a red caped dude actually have a reason to be angry and the Weeping Man actually serve a purpose!!
Edit: I'm still planning on persevering through to the final episode but watching the end of episode 8: Phim didn't get her kiss and instead one of the most interesting characters in the show died before serving any possible purpose to plot development whatsoever. And the Weeping Man is Fey which only brings up more questions. Let's hope episodes 9 and 10 answer these questions... although I'm not hopeful.
