For a show that focuses less on the actual aliens and invasion in lieu of the human drama the situation creates, I find it pathetic that there are only one or two characters I have any sympathy for (the blond British boy and his female friend). I find every other character "meh" at best, but I actively am rooting for the doctor and her unfaithful husband as well as both of their kids to be "invaded". The army soldier has some interesting nuances, but plods along impossibly slowly. The only character that drives the story is the Japanese lady. She is intelligent and "figures out" the aliens, but her backstory is just boring. Sam Neill keeps showing up in the credits as "starring"? Back in the 70's and 80's when certain A list actors showed up in a show, the credits listed them appropriately at the end with something like "and appearing......Sam Neill". I think that was a marketing ploy and certainly a bait and switch.
