As a long-time Star Trek fan, I'm having a problem engaging with this series. It tries to show that the characters care about stuff and each other, but it's really not about what makes Star Trek great. It's all about something called Section 31, which is evil Federation, and how young Spock is a dick. There's little regard for making things look like they should, the main character acts and looks like Iron Man in her magical time suit, and the space scenes look like a frantic JJ Abrams fever dream.
ST: Picard is well written and has compelling characters. ST: Discovery... not so much. It's a little exhausting, and I'll be glad when I never have to hear a ST character talk about 'spore drive' ever again.
