Well done. The casting and actors were all spot on, the script was good, cinematography and directing were also very good. Sobhraj, played by actor Rahim did well. It's true that he could have been more charming and charismatic (I've read by other reviewers) to explain why strangers became so enthralled with him. At times his flat expressions left me wanting more. Jenna Coleman was excellent as Marie, multi-dimensional, layered, and obsessively, tragically drawn to Sobhraj. Quebec born and raised, she abandons simple human decency, compassion, any moral codes her strict catholic upbringing ever taught her. It's a fascinating and heartbreaking story of a brilliant, complex, greedy, murderous psychopath. His victims were almost all young, adventurous, unsuspecting, naive, world- travelers far from home that he and his small crew carefully honed in on, seduced, then plied them with alcohol, sedatives, and sometimes poison. I definitely recommend watching this Netflix/BBC series.
I read the author, Tommy Thompson's book when it came out in 1979. It's 639 pages of an intensely well-researched, compelling, edge of your seat book on the viper, Charles Sobhraj called, "Serpentine". His details are immense and left me beguiled, mystified. If you're looking for a great read, read this book!
